Shamokin
Shamokin is a large, light fawn and very crimpy boy. At eight months, he bares such a resemblance to his sire, Sutdmaster male El Toro, that we call him ET2. He has a very high frequency crimp in his bright and very fine fleece. And has dynamite coverage. Shamokin's show career is starting off well placing 2nd in the light fawn juvenile class at the 2005 MaPACA Show, the largest alpaca show in the history of the industry.

Satanta
A full Peruvian and 1/4 Accoyo, he's the product of elite progeny-tested Studmaster genetics from both sides of his pedigree. His dam is out of Studmaster Accoyo Pachacuti. And his sire is Studmaster K-2, known for producing cria that possess his same traits and have fleeces ranking them among the top U.S. alpacas.

Shearing Day 2005
Most people know alpacas have wonderfully fine soft fleece. And they usually know luxurious items like sweaters, hats, capes and blankets, are made from it. But not many know how the fleece gets from the alpaca's back to the end product. At the 3rd annual HaSu Ranch Alpaca's Shearing Festival, this process was opened to the public.

Selecting Your Future by Selecting a Herdsire by Linda Long, Susan Muther and Hazen Reed
The quickest, most efficient way to improve your herd is to select a herdsire that furthers the goals of your breeding program. First you need to define those goals but then how do you choose a herdsire? What do you look for? Where do you look? Take the time to make the best choice you can for the future of your herd. You won't regret it.

Supplemental Alpaca Feed by
In most cases, the nutritional makeup of your hay will be lacking the recommended levels of vitamins and minerals needed to maintain a healthy herd. It is also possible that your hay does not have the requisite minimum level of protein. To remedy this, you can give your herd a supplemental feeding of grain.

Suris in Winter-- dispelling a myth by Oona Porter

There is a commonly held myth that suris can't endure the cold winters of the northern parts of the U.S and Canada. This article addresses the inaccuracy of this myth via interviews with industry specialists and breeders. In the words of the camelid veterinarian Dr. Dave Anderson, "Saying suris can not live in Canada is like saying huacayas can not live in the USA. Obviously not true as huacayas are thriving in the USA and many suris thrive in Canada."

Syringes & Needles by
You will need to have a variety of syringes and needles on hand to administer the various injectable medicines.

Here are some tried and true tips that have worked for us.
