Details Histogram Images Dam Sire Progeny

If you were to select for the perfect genetics, Hemingway's would certainly come to the top. This full Peruvian boy can boast to have those genes on both sides of his pedigree. His ancestors read like a roster from the Alpaca Book of Who's Who: Sire, Studmaster male NWA Ltd Artero, Grandsires, Peruvian Hemingway and Mister Antonio, Great-grandsires, Peruvian Hemingway and Peruvian Don Julio. And that just lists the males. His granddam is Peruvian Affair and his great granddam is Peruvian Benatton, two of the most successful dams ever in the United States. They are dams to alpacas in breeding programs at some of the best farms in the country.

One look at Mohican and you know he's got the goods. He displays a bright white, tightly stapled, crimpy fleece on his well proportioned frame-- large and square. He is exceptionally fine. Just look at his last year histogram-- 16.2 MC, 4.5 SD, 27.8 CV and only 0.9 % fibers over 30 microns. He is a true testament to his superior genetics. We expect Mohican to carry on the tradition of his relative Hemingway, who consistently improves the fleece characteristics in the progeny of the dams to whom he is bred. This lovely large, dense and extremely fine male's first cria arrived this Summer of '06 and our expectations have been met. Mohican endows his cria with his great qualities--they have been large, fine-fibered, and tightly cirmped. And an added bonus is that he seems to be color neutral, letting the dam's color through. Bred to a white, he had a white cria, and bred to black he had a black. All of his cria have matured early and were weaned well before the average time of 6 months. We look to Mohican to add crimp, fineness and size to our breeding program.
