One look at Shamokin and you know he is something special. First of all, he has the same gorgeous phenotype of his sire, El Toro. The one distinguishing feature is his dark pigmentation, a hint to his dam's black color. Shamokin is a fiber artist's dream. First he is very large and well covered so he has a high shear weight. And he has a superior fleece--very bright and fine with a high frequency crimp and phenomenal staple length. And to top it off it is a lovely light fawn. These traits have been highly awarded by fleece judges throughout his career. His latest win being a 1st at the '06 Empire Fleece Symposium at the age of 2 years. Fiber judge Ruth Elvested remarked that his fleece was extraordinary, with a fineness and consistency that gave the entire fleece the most lovely handle.
Shamokin is that rare colored alpaca that has the fineness more commonly found in white alpacas. And by the look of his skin and pedigree, odds are he'll produce colored cria. And ones that are also exquisitely fine. We suggest breeding to Shamokin if you're looking for a potentially colored cria with the fineness of a white alpaca. We look to Shammie to bring extreme fineness, coverage, staple length and uniformity to our herd. And since we tend to breed for larger alpacas, we just love this guy. He'll produce large cria with terrific fleece and lots of it.
