Nekoti can boast to being extremely rare. She is one of a small handful
of living twin alpacas anywhere in the world. She and her brother, Tekeni, sired by our NWA Ltd Focus, were our black girl Shasta's second
pregnancy. Nekoti, meaning number 1 in Mohican, arrived first and seemed to make sense-- a dark
cria out of a dark dam. But when her brother, a white arrived, we literally had to shake
ourselves to believe it. Both cria's birth weight would be considered
on the small size. But when you add them together, the dam was carrying
about a 20 pound cria! Both cria were healthy and weaned with no
problems.
Nekoti was the larger of the two, and is now a well-grown, statuesque girl. Her parents are our largest alpacas for
their gender, in weight and height. So Nekoti's size is no surprise. Neither is her sweet personality, which is also like her well-natured parents.
Nekotis has a superbly dense fleece with wonderful coverage and in a beautiful chestnut brown. Nekoti is a nonbreeder due to the fact that she was born with no reproductive organs, a result of her having a male twin. While in utero, her reproductive development was impeded by the presence of testosterone, which passed through the placental wall from her brother as he was developing.
