Tekeni can boast to being extremely rare. He is one of a small handful of living twin alpacas anywhere in the world. He and his sister, Nekoti, sired by our NWA Ltd Focus, were our black girl Shastas second pregnancy. Tekeni, meaning number 2 in Mohican, completely shocked us. His sister, a brown, arrived first and seemed to make sense-- a dark cria out of a dark dam. But when he arrived, we literally had to shake ourselves to believe it. Both crias birth weight would be considered on the small size. But when you add them together, the dam was carrying about a 20 pound cria! Both cria were healthy and weaned with no problems.
Tekeni was the smaller of the two, and is still a tad on the small size for his age. His parents are our largest alpacas for their gender, in weight and height. So we expect Tekeni to catch up as he continues to grow. His sister Nekoti has already caught up with her peers, and now passed them.
Tekeni, like his sire, has a fine, dense fleece with wonderful coverage. He also has a calm temperament and very accustomed to people, partly due to being handled so much as a cria. People came from all around to see this rare kid and his sister.
